Meet the rest of the participants at the nearest pick uo point to your hotel and departure to Mount Etna, the active volcano on the east coast of Sicily, close to Messina and Catania. It is located above the edge of the convergent plate between the African plate and the euorasiatica.

The highest active volcano in Europe, currently with its 3,329 meters (10,922 feet) in height, though the data is determined from the eruptions on the summit. And 'the highest mountain in Italy south of the Alps, Etna covers an area of 1,190 square kilometers (459miglia square) with a base circumference of 140 kilometers. This means that it is by far the largest of the three active volcanoes in Italy, being about two and a half times the height of Mount Vesuvius. Only Mount Teide in Tenerife surpasses it. In Greek mythology the monster mortal Tifon was captured under this mountain by Zeus, the god of sky and thunder god and creator of the gods and mankind. The Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and is in a state of almost constant activity. The fertile volcanic soils favor the extensive agriculture with vineyards and orchards spread between the slopes of the mountain and the plain of Catania to the south
